Nayles – Stain Ft. Loose Wayne & Clutch

Categories: Indie, Urban | May 17, 2012 | by Sebastien

Here’s a new track from a Moncton hip hop pioneer and our “soon-to-be” contributor – Nayles.

The track is a classic fusion between Hip-Hop and Rock. The chorus and guitar rhythms are done by Loose Wayne (Moncton) and the second verse by Clutch (Moncton).

The beat was produced and arranged by Nayles as well as the first and third verses.

Metric - Youth Without YouthCanadian group Metric will be releasing their fifth album, Synthetica, on June 12th of this year on Mom + Pop Records.

Youth Without Youth is the album’s first single and is a reaction to lead singer Emily Haines’ perception of the world today and “the decay of the social state, through the eyes of a deprived youth.”

Citizen – Members Only

Though not much is known about Citizen, the newcomer has been releasing tracks for about a year now and has quickly asserted himself as a legitimate house music producer. Many of his tracks are laced with classic 90′s house music samples and references.

Amanda Palmer feat. The Young Punx – Map of Tasmania

Amanda Palmer Goes Down UnderHere’s a fun track I recently discovered that really puts a smile on my face!

Amanda Palmer feat. The Young Punx – Map Of Tasmania

A collaboration between acoustic performer Amanda Palmer and British electronic group The Young Punx, the song was released in 2011 as part of a live album – Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under. Suffice to say it definitely stands out as the only electronic track on an album otherwise featuring acoustic performances in Palmer’s one-of-a-kind comedic style.

Palmer explains on her blog (along with an intricate story of the song’s origins) that she initially released the acoustic version of the song on YouTube with the hopes that it would be remixed into a hard electronic track. Good call on that one!!

You can download the track for a voluntary donation from her site amandapalmer.net

The Weeknd

Categories: Indie, Urban | May 7, 2012 | by Jay Vasseur

Welcome to my first music blog! I’ll be talking about new artists and releases, that I think are attention worthy and deserve some credit. So, let’s start things off and talk about one of my favorite artist that I have found out about, in the last few months – The Weeknd.

The Weeknd - EchoesThe Weeknd (pronounced the weakened) is a Canadian singer from Toronto. I’d classify his music as dark and twisted R&B. His music instantly grabs your attention. You’ll wanna fight/fuck/love/cry/relax or all at the same time while listening. His lyrics can be dark and jaded and he tells you like it is. No matter how debaucherous you think your weekend was, his stories make yours pale in comparison. His voice though, is like a soothing guide through the bad shit that goes on around us. He has gained a lot of popularity in the last year with Drake having him perform on a few of his tracks. He gives away all his music free as well on his soundcloud page.

Here’s a single from his latest EP Echoes of Silence – Montreal.

Treefort - Très Fort

Wisconsin duo Elsa Nekola and Wes Doyle (Slow Loris) recently released their debut album – Très Fort.

In the opening track, Hideout, Doyle’s hopeful guitar and Nekola’s striking vocals combine with the album’s lo-fi sound to create a classic post-punk anthem.
